You took these, Hogs? They're beautiful.

I have a good friend who wants to get into professional photography but she just doesn't know where to start or what kind of job opportunities are available other than freelancing.

Do you have any resources -- online or other -- that may help her? She's very interested in animals and wildlife but doesn't think she'd have a chance with National Geographic.

Sorry if I'm just assuming you're a professional photographer, but they do look great.

Yes, oddi, I took them last weekend. And I'm not a professional photographer, I'm just a hobbiest.
The best way to improve photographing skills is... practicing taking pictures. :) There're many way how to improve technique. I myself am looking for master classes or short courses to take lessons from experienced professionals. There're many courses here in Bay Area and I believe there's something like that where you live as well. Popular Photography is a good magazine that publishes a lot of articles for beginners. There're many books for beginners. "The Question and Answer Guide to Photo Techniques" by Lee Frost is one of most popular books for beginners.
Also there're many photography websites like smugmug.com or http://www.luminous-landscape.com/ where you can browse somebody else's pictures and learn from them. If she's going to buy an equipment or ask question from pro's. Best forums I know are www.dpreview.com, www.photo.net and http://www.fredmiranda.com/
