I think the major thing that separates UT from other FPS games is its movement and physics. Getting rid of double jump -- or, God forbid, dodging -- would be a huge mistake. If you want a similar game without dodging or double jumping, play Quake IV.

Although I rarely ever use double jumping in combat, I use dodge->jumping (dodging then jumping to move more quickly) as my main source of travel, and I use jump->dodging (jumping onto a wall and dodging off of it) as a means to avoid combat.

To remove jumping or dodging, or change them in any drastic way, would completely deteriorate the feel of the game.

no double jump would be crappy. it would take forever to get acrost maps because you couldent dodge jump. the games called UNREAL, were playing as aliens on peices of rock floating around in space with guns that shoot anti-matter. If i wanted a crappy game with no double jump or straffing id play counterstrike.

Not having the double jump sucks...let alone the dodge double jump. I use the normal double jump quite a bit. It is pretty handy in RG. Not to mention that tons and tons of hiding spots in maps will become obsolete because of the no double jump. FU EPIC YOU SUCK!

On a side note, we should all give EPIC a hand...They are pros when it comes to messing up! GJ EPIC...You are one of a kind!

What would be even worse if they just made the normal jump full height double jump. that would get realy bad in low grav instagib.

Double jump was worst move ever that Epic invented. Silly looking and no physical analogue from real world. Even wall jumps can be explained by real world physics. Double and single streangth jumps will be a good solutions for old 2k4 maps.

In my opinion leaving out the double jump wouldnt hurt the game at all. I mean look at all the other games that are doing good ...FEAR,COD,WoW,GW and so on. We'll live without it they do. :boobies:

theyre going to make the jump a little bit higher, as well as the wall dodge give the player a large upward slant.

People where crying about the boost dodge getting the boot in UT2K4... And I was the biggest fan of boost dodging at the time and had my share of whining and tears. Now, I just don't really care about it, maps are played differently. Adapt or Die!

Yes, for UT2K3, Epic did make a mutator that brought back boost dodging in UT2K4 (although it was broken) but in the end the community never adopted those mods and they never became the de-facto standard.

My prediction is that yes there will be an out of the box 'double jump' / 'UT2K4 style' mutator to calm people down... but it will never be used on any ladder, hence no server I will play will run it as people will want to play and practice using the same game type they will play competitively.

Call it 'double jump' and requiring to press a key twice or adjust the jump height and wall-dodge is all fine with me. I guess we won't know how it 'feels' until we really get to see it. I will try not to waste too much sweat on it.

It means only one thing - people did not really care about boost dodge. By the way, it was a bug in the code. And there were more people complaining about it than number of those who liked it. Things that don't become official are not really important to the game.
Regular boosting was taken out in 2k3 and it made it back in 2k4. It means it was important to the community and people liked it. Though most people who started playing from 2k3 did not even know what boosting is.

Yes, boost dodge was a bug... but it did become in common use in UT2K3 and practically essential to master to stay competitive.

Anyway, my whole point is that hoping that 'UT2K4 style' mutators are going to be common use is unlikely IMHO.
