I did not even know that digz played 2k4 so much. Junkie. :) We used to play a lot in ut99 pugs. It's really hard to tell who was the best in UT2k4 RG IG world. There were and are so many good players there. Best DM'er was Snake and he proved it on 1on1 ladder. What's his name in 2k4?
Anyway, I vote for Pup as the best all around player because he can play anything any time of day and he rocks.

Ladders only mean so much... many great players never even join them. 1v1ing can be a tough call as well. I can dm well but put me in a 1v1 and often I won't do as well.

Digz hasn't played UT2k4 in a while though... he first got into it b/c his clan ::TB:: didn't have an IG division. He used to whore it out on the USSR Dallas server with <16 ping. He then joined us in USSR for a while and carried with us when we split off and formed Ñø. He said he got tired of all the hackers 2k4 had and was more confident in the cheat protection of UT'99 that Justy created. He even talked about them porting it to 2k4 with a little work but they never did. >:(

I never knew how poorly AntiTCC was coded until I talked with him. He told me that they focus on detecting the hacks rather than blocking them from working. An ex-clan member of ours admitted to having a bot that he created with the Helios framework and the only thing he had to do was change the names of a few files. AntiTCC will spend time scanning for files by name for public hacks but it would never be able to catch a private one.

I think it's time for Epic to take a more active role in preventing them from working themselves. I'm hoping this fresh start they are making in UT2k7 will not carry the same problems the last 3 installments have, b/c with little work many hacks from the previous two versions could work with the new. I know that people will always find work arounds but perhaps it should be more their role rather than the community's to police it.

Anyways... nothing like a random tangent to throw off a thread.

You gotta realize that there is NO perfect anti-cheat. Whenever a new anti-cheat comes out, the coders will just make a new cheat which will bypass the protection. The anti-cheat makers have to react to what the coders do, which means the cheaters will always be one step ahead.:(

As for Helios FrameWork, I've heard about it and how it passes all anti-cheats. I've also seent he No Clan forums in the past, and saw a guy with the No tag caught with Helios request. I did a bit of research and found a site which is Helios' site and contains hacks and a price for each one. Also displays what features it has. I lost the site a long time ago but remember seeing Helios FrameWork mentioned in the hacks list.

So, I guess anyone who is dumb enough to pay Helios will have a hack which can pass any of UT2K4's anti-cheats. But you should also consider the fact that any game which you can point and shoot (FPS game), there is a hack for each one which gives the player using it an unfair advantage.

I guess, we (the community), need to be more alert and recognize these hackers for who they really are, scum.

My 2 cents.;)

Well what he got caught with was a cache file for something that wasn't even from a bot. I defended him until he admitted to having one anyways although what he was caught with was unrelated. Doesn't matter though. My point is that there inevitably will be cheats out there but it shouldn't be the burden of the community to protect itself, it should be the game creators. We pay to play a fair game... not to rely on others to do it for free for Epic. When the integrity of the UT framework was compromised it never should have been reused for future reiterations.

My problems with AntiTCC stem from the way it's coded. It will do nothing to stop a hacker unless it can detect it... and the only fight it has against one is ban or kick. It should have focused more on plugging holes in the UT backend. I know there will always be private hacks, but the fact that anti-cheat software can be bypassed by renaming files is pathetic and the fact that anyone can buy it... yet it's still not stopped is even dumber. I'm sure it wouldn't take Epic long to get ahold of the Helios framework and stop every instance of it from working but do they? No.

Well, some people have told me, who I know are hackers (not gonna name any names) but Helios FrameWork is a "Native" cheat and only a "Native" anti-cheat can stop it. I asked what they meant by "Native," they said that most bots are coded using uscript, but Helios FrameWork was coded using C++.

I checked the Helios website, www.artificialaiming.tk for some info about this hack. It mentions something about downloading Helios Request which is what No Chance was caught with, according to No Clan forums. I still don't know who would pay $65 for a bot.

He didn't pay for it. He had obtained it through other means. He said he downloaded it to see what it was... b/c he regularly visited there and already had the bot by the time he was caught with that. And I'm 99% sure that the Helios framework compiles uscript bots... the framework itself may be in C++ though.

Probably not a good idea to have that link in the thread, although it is interesting!

Has anyone forwarded that link to Epic? Maybe if they knew of this, they would do something about it?

what I just don't get is what's the point of having a bot in the first place??? So it makes you feel good if you can kill a whole bunch of people by cheating?? I just don't get it - what's the point? I think most botters just get off on the fact they annoy the hell out of everyone else - other than that, I really don't see where the enjoyment could be. Anyway, that's my $.02 - they certainly annoy the hell out of me - I'll change teams just to boost the damn botters off the map.

That site is EXTREMELY popular so I do not see any reason to remove it. Epic knows it for sure, I've seen it been advertised everywhere. Pretty hard to miss in my opinion.

Wise words J1.

[Edit] It's pretty good to make this link public, the more knowledge we have about these bots, the better we can stop and recognize them.

Epic tried legal actions against companies that hosted aimbots and forums. Thing is that there're many anonymous hosting companies that don't really care what their customers are putting out for public and they're not liable.
